Although I have enjoyed reading both of yours. So in the mean time I will have to continue ranting about movies and tv shows via the BOOKclub site.

I found that as I age I am less and less interested in award shows. I remember when I was younger being fascinated by the Oscars, counting down to the VMA's, and placing betts against ...

Okay, our other pick for July is a thriller, a combination of medical and police drama. In other words, a good summer beach read. XD Here's a synopsis for it:

Quote: A serial killer is on the loose in Boston. The victims are killed in a particularly nasty way: cut with a scalpel on the stomach, the intestines and uterus removed, and then the throat slashed. The killer obviously has medical knowledge and has been dubbed "the Surgeon" by the media. Detective Thomas ...

Being geeks, they (we?) do it on the computer. Via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail, the news of John Hughes' death on Thursday spread instantly, followed by people typing out famous line after famous line.

Our June selection (once Bittner finishes Outlander and I come to the end of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) is a quirky book from a quirky author. I've read two of his other books, Lonely Werewolf Girl and The Good Faires of New York, two of the most awesomely bizzare books of my vast collection. So, here's hoping Lux is good enough to tempt you!

Here's the review from Amazon:

I know, I know. We're a bit behind... BUT, we're getting back on track. Choosing two books last month turned out to be epic fail, as I had trouble finding P&P&Z, and Bittner had trouble finding our Pirate book... But I picked up PPZ at last, and Bittner finally purchased Outlander... I think. XD

Outlander, technically our May pick, was chosen to fit our sci-fi/romance/fantasy selection. As I'm almost done with the book (and actually just picked up the sequel today) I have ...

Our second book for this month is a pirate book, especially picked for Bittner since she has been yearning for a book about pirates. Next she's going to want ninjas... But as we have covered vampires, zombies and ghosts, I guess it's only fair to walk the plank for now.

Capt. Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth by J.V. Hart (it's also illustrated by Brett Helquist who did the drawings for A Series of Unfortunate Events for my fellow book nerds out there in reader land.)

For the month of romance we have chosen this classic tale of two sisters and their very different path towards finding true love!

Our first book of December is Godfather by Mario Puzo. It spawned two of the top films in history, and was nominated by our very own Bittner.

Here's what Amazon had to say about the book:

Quote:The story of Don Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia family, inspired some of the most successful movies ever. It is in Mario Puzo's The Godfather that Corleone first appears. New Moon, the book that started the tormented love triangle and divided readers into Team Edward and Team Jacob. Starting sometime in July (when I'm done with Twilight) I'll post a chapter by chapter summary and thoughts. I'd love to hear yours.

The first time I read New Moon I was impatient thru much of the middle part (Team Edward member here), but this will be my third read through so I am hoping to pick up on things I missed before.

The book that launched a million obsessions and introduced everyone's favorite tormented vampire, Edward Cullen!

Starting on the first I will be giving my thoughts on each chapter of Twilight here, and I would love it if you guys did the same. Are you impressions of Edward and Bella still the same as they were the first time around? Are you finally realizing something for the first time (when we get to the Blood Type chapter I'll share my own personal 'Duh!' moment).

First of all, C, I want to let you know that I loved the book you picked out!! What a great selection for your very first pick. The bar is now set pretty high. XD

As mentioned above, I loved this book. It made me laugh out loud while reading, which is a rare thing for me. I was reading it at work one day and my friend and co-worker Ame kept laughing at me because I kept laughing. Although I was a bit disturbed ...

But we already know the bands she likes (and I do thank her for introducing me to Muse and Blue October, and I praise her for her love of Coldplay). What songs does this book put you in the mood to listen to?

~In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel- is there a more fitting song in the world for this book? I think not!

What songs can you relate to this book? List them here to create your own I Love You, Beth Cooper playlist.

For me the book brings back obvious great 80's movie soundtracks, so for the most part that's what my mental playlist is comprised off.

~Wave of Mutilation by the Pixes (for anytime Denis takes a beating)

~Walking Down Your Street by the Bangles (the song I can picture Denis listening to as he worked up the idea to tell Beth he loved her at graduation)

Okay, I thought a fun thing to do for each book is come up with a playlist of music to go along with each book, similiar to what Stephenie Meyer always does with her novels. So while you're reading if anything reminds you of a song, or fits the lyrics perfectly, jot it down here. I love playlists built around books! I have all the ones from the Twilight books (although I really hate Linkin Park and am astounded Stephenie Meyer loves them!).

For Mosca and Clent and Saracen, here's my playlist ...

WOW!!!!!!

I was surprised by how much I loved this book. I have to admit, when I first heard of it I was not blown away. I was mad that Stephenie was taking time away from my vampires, and although I occassionally read sci fi, I am by no means in love with the genre.

Stephenie Meyer proved me wrong! The host was as much of a good read as Twilight, I loved the concept of the aliens, and the moral struggles that her plot brings about. And Jared! Perfect, wonderful, Jared!

A Kate pick!

The Host is Stephenie Meyer's first "adult" and science fiction novel. It takes place in a world where humanity has been taken over by alien life forms that use our bodies as hosts to live. The main character is the Wanderer. She is placed inside the body of a host, but unlike most humans, the orginal owner of the body, Melanie, isn't going away. With Melanie's body comes Melanie's memories of the man she loves, Jared. What happens when Wanderer falls as hard for human ...

As this was the first book we picked when we began the book club, it's been a few months since I've read this book. I really enjoyed it, I loved the world Hardinge has created, and her characters are very interesting. C has pointed out that Mosca is not very likeable, but I dig that. The main character does not always have to be a Mary Sue, I liked Mosca's flaws, even though I found myself yelling at her for her stupidity now and then. I felt that it was in keeping with her character.

Fly By Night is the story of orphan girl, Mosca, and it takes place in an alternate world similiar, but not the same, to our own. Mosca runs away from her water logged villiage with only a disgruntled goose, and joins forces with Clent, a bit of con artist. Mosca is different then most children her age because she can read. Books in Mosca and Clent's world are strictly watched over, and most are banned. Which makes it a nice fit for a book club, eh? Mosca and Clent find ...

A Courtney pick!

I Love You, Beth Cooper is a teen movie in book form. It follows the story of class brain, Denis, on the day of his graduation, where in front of his entire class, declares his love for cheerleader, Beth Cooper. What follows is a wild night of love, beatings, near homicide, out of control parties, and crime. If you loved Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Can't Hardly Wait, and Say Anything, or any other teen movie ever made, then this book was written for you.
